Third Congress of mayors promoting the “One Country, One Flag” Campaign
The third Congress of promoters was held in Parets del Vallès the 6th April 2002. The central debate was called under the name of “the economic balance of Catalonia-Spain and its repercussion to the town councils”.
It was finally observed that “according to several studies presented, the financial model in the Spanish state implies an offence that needs to be resolved. A situation that the catalan political parties already know in a way or another”. And in the mayors’ opinion “it involves a clear deficit in the contributions to the state in relation to the services and infrastructures that the catalan citizens need”.
As a consequence, it was stated that “Catalonia needs financial and political sovereignty to be able to administrate their resources in an effective way”.
The mayors asked for “a wide and deep debate about the financial models that take into account the relations with the state, so as to act in accordance to the principles of equality and solidarity”.
