The banner of the conquest This picture corresponds to the banner that is conserved in the city of València from the XIII century. The Penó is, for many Catalan citizens, one of their fundamental identifying symbols and it is one of the oldest catalan flags to survive until this present day. It is the same flag with 4 bars which nowadays planes pride of place in public and private institutions in the entire scope of Catalan culture. Furthermore, this flag is flown in the Castle of Perpinyà (Perpignan in french language), on certain buildings in País Valencià (Valencian communnity) and on the historical buildings of Alguer (italian administration).
